25-year retrospective, 2021-2026

Since our first meeting in 1980, the KEAC Members and Secretariat have endeavoured to rigorously fulfil our mandate as set out in Section 23 of the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement (JBNQA). In 2001 the KEAC Members undertook a first Retrospective of the KEAC activities since the signing of the JBNQA and the first meeting of the KEAC in 1980. We have now undertaken a second 25-year review encompassing the period 2001 to 2026.

The KEAC, Makivvik and the Naskapi Nation of Kawawachikamach recently co-hosted impact assessment community workshops aimed at increasing awareness of impact assessment processes and discussing how communities wish to engage and be equipped to participate in these processes. A fist workshop was held in Kuujjuaarapik on June 11, 2025, a second in Kuujjuaq on October 7, 2025 and a third workshop Quaqtaq on February 12, 2026. A report regarding what was heard during the workshops is currently being drafted and will be published summer 2026.
